DOUG MACDONALD
VICE PRESIDENT
Doug Macdonald has over 40 years of professional experience in the landscape and irrigation industry. He is currently a principal and vice president of Aqua Engineering, Inc. and manages the firm’s Arizona office and desert southwest clientele. Doug’s expertise includes irrigation and on-site water storage facility design, alternative water source development, and LEED consulting services, with responsibilities including project management, master planning, conceptual design through construction documents, and construction observation services. He specializes in providing innovative solutions for large municipal and regional parks, sports and athletic fields, corporate campuses, and streetscapes. Doug served as the National President of the American Society of Irrigation Consultants (ASIC) from 1994 – 1996 and served on the ASIC National Board of Directors for two additional terms. In 2015, Doug was honored with Fellow Status by the ASIC. In 2018, Doug was honored by Hunter Industries with their national Trailblazer Award. Doug served on the National Board of Directors for the Irrigation Association, an international professional and trade organization for the irrigation industry, from 2018 – 2021. In 2024, Doug was honored with the “Sam Tobey Lifetime Achievement Award” by the ASIC. Doug is a Colorado native, born in Denver, he graduated from Heritage High School in Littleton, Colorado and earned his degree in Environmental Design from the University of Colorado-Boulder in 1982. He and his wife, Cyndie, lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for 12 years before moving back to Colorado in 1998, when he accepted a position at Aqua Engineering. He is an avid golfer, the result of working his way through high school and college as a caddy, and ultimately caddy master, at Cherry Hills Country Club in Englewood, Colorado. He enjoys working outdoors, gardening and landscaping, watching the birds and the spectacular sunsets that are found in both Colorado and Arizona.
